The Sprawwl Reading Series is proud to announce our third reading event, featuring three terrific writers, via Zoom, on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at 4 PM PDT/7 PM EDT.

Tickets are free; but we encourage donations of any amount to the Holden Minority Scholarship, which supports writers of color attending the Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers. Helen Fremont’s memoir, The Escape Artist, was named an “Editor’s Choice” by The New York Times and a “Best New Book” by People Magazine. Her previous book, After Long Silence, was a national bestseller. Helen’s stories have appeared in Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards, Ploughshares, Harvard Review, and other publications.

Mari Coates, a proud MFA alumna of the Warren Wilson Program for Writers, lives in San Francisco. Her recently published first novel, The Pelton Papers, reimagines the life of American modernist painter Agnes Pelton (1881-1961) and is a 2020 bronze medal winner from the Independent Book Publishers Association.

Judy French is a writer and teacher living in Southern California. Her prose and poetry have appeared in The Colorado Review, Vestal Review, Nano, and Opium, as well as other journals. She is a graduate of the Warren Wilson College MFA program.
Readings will be emceed by Sprawwl founder (and WW MFA alumna) Leslie Blanco; a Q&A will follow.
The Sprawwl Reading Series was begun in the spring of 2018, to highlight the work of alumni from the Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers, the oldest low-residency writing program in the United States. The mission of The Sprawwl is to provide a meeting place for faculty and graduates of the program, as well as for all poets and prose writers living in the Southern California area and beyond.
